Ca’ del Baio

One of the most classic names in Barbaresco is now in its 4th generation, with sisters Paola, Valentina and Federica following in the footsteps of their parents Giulio and Luciana. Together they farm 31 Ha (77 acres) of estate vineyards mostly in the villages of Barbaresco and Treiso. Roughly 50% of their production is based on Nebbiolo, with terrific site-specific Barbaresco expressions from prestigious MGAs (single vineyards) like Asili, Pora and Vallegrande. Farming practices are based on the “Green Experience”. This is a certification of sustainable viticulture, developed locally by farmers in the Langhe region to preserve the biodiversity and natural resources of the soil, to protect the value of traditional Piedmontese viticulture, and to safeguard the natural environment of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato. Some of the practices include the use of green manure, the exclusion of synthetic/chemical pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, the diffusion of pollinating insects, and the planting of herbaceous and floral essences. In the cellar, winemaking is essential and is based on native yeasts fermentations, minimal use of sulfites and the exclusion of any additives. Aging takes place primarily in large Botti, with some 500L tonneaux used on the Riservas.

Stylistically, Ca’ del Baio wines are renowned for their balance, elegance and value. They effortlessly convey the unique details of each grape variety while maintaining each wine’s sense of place in clear focus.

Winemaking is very traditional, with native yeast fermentation, long maceration and 24 months of aging in large Slavonian Botti. An iconic Barbaresco, in which Nebbiolo’s elegance and aging potential shine through.

  • Ca del Baio Barbaresco Asili Riserva

    "Asili" Barbaresco Riserva DOCG

The Riserva is made only in excellent years, from a selection of the oldest “Michet” clones of Nebbiolo in Ca’ del Baio’s historical Asili MGA. Fermented with native yeasts and 10% whole clusters in stainless steel vats, with extended submerged cap maceration of 45 days, and aged in old French oak barriques.
