Balgera
The Balgera Family has been making wine in Valtellina since 1885. Matteo and his brother Luca represent the 5th generation, and together with their father Paolo they farm 10 Ha of terraced vineyards, primarily in the Valgella sub-zone. Farming and harvest are carried over by hand, with over 1500 hours/ha, rigorously by practicing sustainable viticulture. Soils are rich in metamorphic rocks, granite and black slate, with good amounts of sands from the millenary erosion processes of the Alps. Balgera super-traditional style stands out for 4 main features: native yeasts fermentations, 1 year of decantation in large cement vats and extended aging in large Slavonian oak and bottle before release.
The Balgeras are one of the most historical winemaking families in Valtellina, renowned for elegant, ethereal Nebbiolos that showcase all their alpine nature in a transparent, crystal clear aromatic detail.
